Employee Testimonial - Nakita's Journey
My name is Nakita Little, a proud mother of two girls, ages nine and sixteen months. I grew up in Kwinana, WA, and began my journey with Moorditj Koort in 2016, when I applied for a part-time role as a School Program Officer. In this role, I supported Aboriginal Health Workers (AHPs) conducting health checks at three local schools. Witnessing the dedication to supporting youth in schools and elders in our community truly inspired me! motivating me to start my own journey of learning and growth with Moorditj Koort
2017
I completed my training and officially became a qualified, registered AHP. The training was incredibly rewarding, providing insights into Aboriginal health, networking opportunities and useful tools of the trade. One of my biggest challenges was the weekly assessments every Tuesday, which was stressful, but I enjoyed the travel and meeting other students who shared my passion. Moorditj Koort’s offered me endless support during this journey, for which I am deeply grateful.
2019
With my growing skills and confidence, I advanced to a Care Coordinator position. In this role, I worked closely with clients managing chronic diseases, engaged with the community and built valuable networks.
2021
I became a Clinical Assistance Officer, responsible for coordinating Allied Health and specialist clinics. This position involved maintaining regular communication with clients to ensure they attended appointments, managing referrals, and organising services for clinic visits.
Now, in 2024:
I’m honoured to serve as the Clinical Assistant Lead. I provide leadership and support across programs, including the Aboriginal Wellness Centre, Kwinana Schools Program and Ear Health Program. I work collaboratively with health professionals, specialists, GPs and partners to support comprehensive primary care services at local schools, aiming to increase the accessibility and utilisation of MKAC services and Aboriginal health checks.
Moorditj Koort Aboriginal Corporation (MKAC) has supported me through personal and professional challenges, including the loss of my brother. I’ve grown from someone once hesitant to make decisions into a leader who can guide and uplift others. This organisation has become my safe place, and I genuinely love coming to work every day.
My career journey has allowed me to give back to my community and I’m proud to be part of the health journey and growth we’re achieving together.
