On the 2nd of September, Alex Little & Travis Humphries departed Perth to attend the Culture Care Connect National Summit which was held in Cairns at the Hilton Cairns.

The National Summit went for three days, commencing on the 3rd of September and ending on the 5th of September 2024.

The National Summit was a gathering for all Culture Care Connect (CCC) sites across the country to meet, share, express new ideas, challenges, creating new relationships and provide a presentation to all CCC staff and delegates who attended. Alex and Travis both presented on the second day representing Moorditj Koort and what our CCC team has done so far in the community since commencement early this year. This included showcasing the community consultation which was aligned with the CLO Program to update the Perth South Metro Regional Suicide Prevention Plan, mental health community workshops held at the MK office in Parmelia, liaison with Gilmore College Clontarf students around suicide (prevention, breaking the stigma, seeking help), community engagement with events and stall holders, men’s & women’s groups, collaboration with Headspace who is based at MK every second Thursday.

"We gained a wealth of knowledge from other CCC sites and how we can add ideas into our own program at Moorditj Koort; but also creating a good relationship with those different sites for the future. We also gained a lot of positive feedback in regard to our presentation that our CCC team at Moorditj Koort is on track and other sites would like to follow suit. It also showed that Western Australia is leading the way for action against suicide and our fellow ACCO’s in WA have a great bond to tackle this crisis." - Travis Humphries.

"The conference for me was a great experience. Sitting and talking with Aftercare workers from the other states of Australia was an eye opener and had given me a better understanding of working with our mob when it comes to Mental Health and Suicide Prevention." -
Alex Little.
