We are excited to share that MKAC has begun delivering targeted GP services, with two part-time GPs on staff to support our current clients.
This focused service will be available until December 2024, and we hope to welcome more doctors in the new year to increase the number of GP appointments.
Our aim is to ensure that all MKAC clients have an up-to-date GP management plan and access to culturally safe Aboriginal Health Checks (MBS Item 715) and chronic disease management.
We understand that many people already have their regular GP, and we strongly encourage you to continue accessing your current GP if you have one. However, if you do not have a regular GP, we invite all current MKAC clients to reach out to us. We are here to help you navigate the local healthcare system and ensure you receive the care you need.
Additionally, our GP services will support clients who are experiencing challenges in accessing comprehensive follow-up care, regardless of whether they have a current GP management plan. Our goal is to ensure that every client receives the support and care necessary for their health journey.
In addition to our GP services, MKAC offers support from Aboriginal Health Practitioners, Nurse Practitioners, Social Workers, and Mental Health Workers. We are also here to assist you in accessing Aged Care and the NDIS, ensuring a holistic approach to your health and well-being.
MKAC is working tirelessly to secure culturally safe GP services across all our sites, making healthcare accessible to everyone. We appreciate your patience during this setup period as we continue our journey to establish the One Stop Shop model that has been the community's vision for over a decade.
Currently, we are in the early stages of integrating GP services as part of our One Stop Shop, alongside a dedicated workforce of highly trained, community-centered Aboriginal Health Practitioners. In 2025 and beyond, we aim to support Aboriginal Health Practitioners working at MKAC to grow their careers across a variety of health-related fields, driving the positive change we all wish to see in our communities.
Together, we can build a healthier future for everyone!
